DRAFTING SKELETON ARGUMENTS AND NOTICES OF APPEAL: EXAMPLES ON LINE

The skeleton arguments and Notices of Appeal in a case are rarely seen. David Price Solicitors have put their Skeleton and Notice of Appeal on line in a case.

THE CASE

The case is a defamation case where the solicitors are seeking to appeal a refusal to strike out an action. The Skeleton Argument and Notice of Appeal (with some redactions) can be found at http://www.lawyers-media.com/elliott-seeks-to-appeal-ruling-on-rufus-claim/

GENERAL GUIDANCE ON WRITTEN ADVOCACY

I could not  touch this subject without mentioning the wonderful book “Effective Written Advocacy” by Andrew Goodman.  Not only does it contain advice for counsel and solicitors alike. It  is not confined to skeleton arguments. It has sections on written advocacy outside the courts, including Inter-Partes correspondence; Letters of claim and reply and Part 36 offers.

At £35 this is one of the best bargains any litigator will ever buy, see http://www.wildy.com/isbn/9780854900954.  No litigator should be without it.

(I don’t know the author and this is my independent view based on finding the book almost by accident).
