Hi
I qualified in 1971 and set up my own Solicitor Practice 3 doors from the West London County Court in 74 where I appeared quite frequently.
Surely because I dressed really smart Gown Tabs Collar all perfect every time His Honour Judge Macintyre would not only listen carefully to my arguments but from time to time even used to send the Usher to bring me into his Court room on unrelated cases where he was dealing with litigants in person to ask my advice right there in the Court in session in public !!! The litigants must have thought me quite the doyen .
However smart as I was I still recall the very first time I had to leave the Court room my case being concluded and that being the last case in that morning session I was severely reprimanded by the Clerk who caught me up in the corridor when he chided me for “abandoning the jurisdiction” !!! I
I was very cautious after that never to walk out ( even smartly dressed bowing and smiling) until after His Honour had risen and left the bench.
