GREAT EDSTONE FESTIVAL 2018: THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME : RAISING MONEY FOR THE MS SOCIETY (THERE IS A LEGAL LINK)

June the 16th 2018 sees the last ever Great Edstone Festival.  A festival that has raised thousands of pounds for the MS Society and also had the support of many members of the legal profession. This is your last chance to attend one of the most family friendly festivals around.

THE FESTIVAL

At the name suggests the festival is in Great Edstone, North Yorkshire, near Kirbymoorside.  It runs on Saturday, throughout the day and evening.  It raises funds for the MS Society. Have a look at the  pictures on this page and the video on this page.

THE LEGAL LINKS

The main organisers are the Waley family. Simon Waley is a barrister and, over the years he has persuaded numerous lawyers to attend, often to watch, sometimes to take part.

It may not be a total surprise to find certain members of my Circuit in charge of the champagne stall but over the years,  I think there have been at least three judges on the stage, numerous recorders. Four people who have subsequently gone on to become judges, and numerous barristers and solicitors. (Not to mention the time that, seeing the amount of gear I had to carry, two of our local Circuit Judges gave me a hand – perhaps fulfilling a long-held ambition to be roadies*).

“Waley & the Marlers” is a band made up largely of lawyers. It is the only band that has played every one of the festivals.
