AMENDMENTS TO CIVIL PROCEDURE RULES COMING INTO FORCE ON THE 1st JANUARY 2014
There are new rules coming into force on the 1st January.
These mainly amend the procedure relating to defamation and the presumption of a jury trial. However there are other minor amendments.
The rules and explanatory text can be found at http://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/procedure-rules/civil/
I will cheerfully predict that the abolition of the right to trial by jury will lead to a huge increases in judges disposing of material and disputed issues of fact using CPR Part 24. The real agenda of the judiciary is not to abolish trial by jury. The real agenda is to abolish trials altogether.
