USEFUL LINKS: SUPPORT FOR LAWYERS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS (BECAUSE LAWYERS ARE PEOPLE TOO…)
The third in the series on useful links. Here we look at help and guidance for lawyers.
The Law Society offers advice and updates on Coronavirus for the legal profession, including advice for:
- firm owners, managing partners and senior leaders
- members visiting police stations, prisons or courts
- international firms
- legal aid firms
In relation to compliance, the SRA advises that “if you do face compliance difficulties linked to the virus, you should clearly document the approach you have taken.”
SUPPORT FOR WELLBEING
Regarding support for wellbeing, the Law Society’s post has useful links to information and guidance on matters such as support services and advice for firms facing financial difficulty.
Similarly, the Wellbeing at the Bar website has resources available for barristers and chambers staff. This includes a confidential telephone support and counselling service.
LawCare provides a telephone helpline as well as free online interactive resources for all legal professionals.
The Law Society has produced an article on Coronavirus and residential conveyancing transactions.
LexisNexis’ blog Future of Law has an article which rounds up all of their latest articles discussing the pandemic and its impact on the legal profession.
Kings Chambers has a blog Coronavirus: Guidance for Law and Businesses that covers a wide range of legal and commercial issues.
The Lawyer has a dedicated coronavirus news section. This collates all of the Coronavirus briefings, analysis & insights and latest news in relation to the legal profession.
Irwin Mitchell has a Coronavirus Updates page. This contains ongoing commentary from lawyers on different areas of law including employment, commercial litigation, manufacturing, real estate, sports, and family law.
Fieldfisher’s website has a page on the latest employment law updates during COVID-19. This gives updates for many different countries including the UK, France and China. It also offers insights on many other areas of law.
Clifford Chance offers a sector focus and country spotlight approach in relation to its legal insights on the impacts of the virus.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDANCE
The SRA has a Coronavirus update on education and training. This explains how assessments for the GDL, LPC and PSC may be varied. It also answers questions related to training contracts.
The Bar Standards Board has guidance on the impacts of the outbreak on pupillages due to start in Autumn 2020 and bar training students.
Law and Broader have produced a youtube video which focuses on the impact of Coronavirus on both current and future trainees. Of particular use (for anyone, not just trainees) are the links in the description of the video. These are links to “upskilling” courses which can be used in this new-found time.
